So halcy are you going to start moving the tastiest bits from your kopipe archive or should I?

As I am busy with loads of different things, I don't have the time to do so, so any work in that direction would be greatly appreciated. It'd kick ass if I could finally delete my mirror backup thing for real (Or rather, redirect it here so that all the links don't break). HOWTO: Kopipe/HOWTO
As always on here, the basic premise "Just do whatever" applies. Seriously, no one will rip your head off for anything. You won't get banned unless you're blatantly abusing the site, like by spamming a'la V1@GR4, or post stuff that is a tad too much on the illegal side of things.

Sure, I plan on moving it/helping you move it, I just dumped it there for later use. Kasava 09:42, 1 January 2008 (PST)

Hold on, did you move all of the kopipe and correctly format it and all that?
I moved all the george zimmer stuff ;) As for the "Correctly format", well, It's just "Stick a {{Kopipe|George Zimmer}} in front of it and copy over", but that should be fine for this. Automation, fuck yeah. Thank you, Perl, and thank you, [1]. Also, mandatory invitation, feel free to join us on IRC. --Halcy 10:01, 1 January 2008 (PST)

Collapsable templates code in commons.js[edit]

I'd like to improve the dqn music template by making itcollapsable. It looks like they do things somewhat cleanly at encyclopediadramatica (lol ed), so I thought maybe we could steal their code -> MediaWiki:Common.js. And here's a simple demo. I thought I'd let you know so you can remove it before it gets used on live pages if there's a problem with doing this. -- IAAPMOTESOD 10:24, 18 February 2008 (PST)

Ack, that shows absolutely nothing with JS off, which means I'd no longer be able to browse with w3m. Not that my opinion probably matters, but hey. :P
Yeah, see User:I am a proud member of the Elitist Superstructure of DQN/Tests for the workaround I think we could use.

Looks like the spambots found a way in again ;_;[edit]

I'm gonna go ahead and hope this is not something that happens often, and can be hand-deleted without beeing much of a pain in the arse. I have no idea how this slipped through. If not, then it's probably time for CHANGE. --Halcy 19:59, 29 June 2008 (PDT)
The reverse Turing test only works against bots. If this was some sort of a mongolian hordes style gold-farm spam, with an actual browser and everything, then it would of course come through. Also it's possible that these bots have adapted to the "leave this empty" thing by simply sending as many HTTP POSTs as there are input fields, leaving one empty in turn. (This could be gone around with a "hay, anon, plz type short form of dokyun here" type thing in addition to "leave this field empty".) --Turippufaggu 08:13, 30 June 2008 (PDT)
Frankly, I'd probably just go for adding a second and third field to leave blank, and a little piece of javascript (with a simple captcha like you described as a fallback) if all else fails. --Halcy 16:56, 30 June 2008 (PDT)
Alright, mediawiki is upgraded, spamtrap is next. It is getting annoying indeed.
Please wait to fix the IDs until the spamtrap is done. -- Fou-Lu 23:00, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh god I hope I'm posting this in the right place I don't wanna come off as a idiot or something[edit]

I was just wondering whether or not it'd be allowed to link to MS PMincho and PGothic fonts (for AArt) in A Guide to SAoVQ. For the time being I've linked to the original post on SAoVQ, but even then I don't know if that's allowed. Also, if I'm talking to the wrong person, please see the above heading. - VIPPER OF THE NORTH STAR (tell me a kopipe~ | VIP EDITS)

"Just do whatever", really. If someone thinks what you did was a stupid idea, he'll probably tell you so. Can't see anything wrong with that, though.
Sounds like a plan. Cheers anonymous. - VIPPER OF THE NORTH STAR (tell me a kopipe~ | VIP EDITS)

Image issue[edit]

The two 30 july files on are displaying an error message. They worked when I uploaded them, but now they don't, and no other pictures seem to have issues.

Is it safe to try to re-upload them and to upload other pictures? I hope my pics didn't somehow break something. —IAAPMOTESOD 13:39, 31 July 2008 (PDT)

What you just said would be your best bet. If it doesn't work, you could try changing the file type. One of the last things I expect from mediawiki software is that something broke from image uploads. Bot 17:07, 31 July 2008 (PDT)
That's why I'd rather not experiment, just in case it could make some issue worse.
Mediawiki can sometimes choke on PNG images, but well, this should not really break anything. Go ahead, reupload if you haven't already (The pics look fine to me?)
Yes, they are back, but I didn't do anything. Weird. Note that the error message I saw yesterday exposed the full path name on the server, if that's a concern.
Nope, wouldn't matter much. It's just mediawiki hiccuping, nothing to be _too_ concerned about.

Thanks for the welcome, but actually, you probably know my nick's based on this:
Bridget trap macro.jpg
It was on the same first google page results for "Bridget" btw :P Bridget.t 22:22, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Well yes, but that would have been boring now would it! :V

Just a quick comment[edit]

There really, really needs to be a way to ban abusive IDs. Fou-Lu 14:19, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Bruteforce the IP :V
 :( you couldn't add the variable to the ban page or something? Fou-Lu 14:56, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm looking into it. Also I was only half joking. Search space of 2^32 for MD5, when you know how things will be formatted? DOABLE. :V
It seems just not to recognize that the IDs aren't users, but the equivalent of an IP address.

       function AnonUsername($cocks) {
               if ($cocks != "") {
                       # dmY = new ID per day, WY = per week
                       $key = wfGetIP().'PUT RANDOM TEXT HERE'.gmdate('dmY');
                       return 'ID:'.substr(crypt(md5($key), 'id'), 2, 8);
               } else {
                       return 'IP:'.wfGetIP();

or something -- Fou-Lu 15:45, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

socks > cocks ID:fmLyS4R9 09:20, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Quite true. Although {Cayman, Cisco} > SOCKS{4,5} -- Fou-Lu 15:08, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

They're Back![edit]

Oh, look, they got through *again* -- Fou-Lu 00:57, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Rollback broken for me[edit]

On clicking rollback:

"You triggered the bot trap, try refreshing the page and then try again... Turn cookies on if you have them off. We're very sorry that we have to do this, spam bots are forcing us to.

Reverted edits by ID:KqAE/wEJ (block); changed back to last version by ZeldrOnvir (Talk | contribs | block).

Return to Kopipe:Assorted kopipe."

Verified using Firefox and Safari: doesn't seem to be on my end.

BTW there is to be a new batch of spambots who do this sort of shit:

Personal info got posted[edit]

Not sure anybody cares or whatever, I only reverted and took no initiative. -I am a proud member of the Elitist Superstructure of DQN 12:35, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Will ask if gives a fuck, will do shit if, will not if not. This is now an official policy of sorts I guess. --Halcy 12:54, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, everything taken care of. Result: Deleted (Person in question asked to please do), recreated with previous revision, gave out IP doing offending edit (Will not publicly disclose, though). -- halcy, cba to log in.

Anonymous ID seem to have stopped working[edit]

Two IPs appeared in recent changes. I am a proud member of the Elitist Superstructure of DQN 21:50, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh crap, I must have broken that when I updated. Will fix ASAP. [I had to upgrade since apparently we've had a security breach!] --halcy

Since I'll have to spam you to revert, I'll say something really worth your while[edit]

Not the first time we see this bot messing up special characters without doing anything more. What the hell is it probing? I am a proud member of the Elitist Superstructure of DQN 21:18, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Caught the bot doing it again recently. Maybe it's just some dumb automation with no purpose other than to break stuff? Dot!!wlpa0ETY 01:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

We're getting new-user spammed[edit]

See recent changes, 7 today. They only create the account, and don't use it immediately. I am a proud member of the Elitist Superstructure of DQN 16:13, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

The names are consistent with spambot name patterns I have seen in the past elsewhere. -- LiteralKa 18:19, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Is range blocking enabled?[edit]

90% of the spambots that came here recently are from the same IP range. I have added a block but it will only work if range blocking is enabled. Is it? GENOCIDE BY BOOMERANGS 20:57, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Range blocking is enabled on all Wikimedia wikis; to enable it on other wikis, add "$wgSysopRangeBans = true;" in LocalSettings.php. -

Just going to stay in this wiki for a little bit[edit]

Hey there, I'm the primary developer of Cherimoya GNU/Linux, and we're just going to place our documentation and wiki here (Sourceforge's mediawiki sucked), so if have any problems with it, or are closing the wiki anytime soon, don't hesitate to contact me... Iruel 21:28, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, not going to close anytime soon and uh, as long as you don't break shit... --halcy, too lazy to log in.
P.S. backups are currently broken and have been for a while so seriously, do try to not break shit.

We really should do something about them soon y'know.. Haibane Renmei 04:14, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Something b0rked[edit]

"As a result, I upgraded mediawiki a lot forever and added a different captcha and more anti-spam measures and whatever, if it is too annoying of if you notice anything that broke, bother me about it."

I think something did break...badly. ID:EjQP7vF4 14:12, 4 April 2012 (PDT)

Dearest Halcy[edit]

How much do all these spambots weigh on site database? is getting slower. -- Jack Phoenix ID:gH.jdctL

I wonder. I've been meaning to do something about it. Maybe I will today, and then clean up the DB. ~halcy

good work on deleting a million accounts, but they are still creating bots, I don't know much about coding but can't you add something to the html/css that is a captcha or a question that identifies a account creator is not a bot.

technically yes but mediawiki is a pain, which is why it's currently only on the edit form. I tried switching the captcha to recaptcha, but the only effect is that we now get DIFFERENT bots. I will probably do two things later: 1) install something that just hides new user regs from recent changes 2) try to actually make bottropp.php (the thing that protects editing rn) hit the registration too
i would be content if you just deleted the recent changes stuff, because it's annoying and i want to see changes from many days ago
also i've been to websites that have added recaptcha and questions and the bots disappeared maybe the spammers will just give up or just don't have the bots for those kinda questions and recaptcha

And so Template:DQN no longer works and presumably you can't edit any existing page that includes it. Plz fix. -Passwordishunter2 (talk) 16:15, 23 April 2018 (PDT)
